Captured Memories
As I glance back in time, reminiscing
On life and the things that I've done.
I flick through our old family albums.
Do you know I'm not even in one?
I hold in my hand captured memories,
As the kids grew and changed with the years -
All their special days, I wasn't with them
To share in their joys and their tears.
When I should have been with you,
I was out on the road.
While I sought fame and fortune,
You were bearing the load.
Time has passed at the speed of an arrow.
The days of first love are all gone.
It's so sad when you know you're not needed
By a family grown up and moved on.
Now I wish I could turn back the pages.
But, I know that I can't change the past.
While the walls of each changing hotel room,
Looks exactly the same as the last.
And the dreams that I followed,
(Although I never knew)
Weren't in dark dusty bar rooms.
They were back home with you.
When I should have been with you,
I was out on the road.
While I sought fame and fortune,
You were bearing the load.
(While I'm still out on the road....)
