Memories of Westmeath
I was no more than just a boy
When to my hometown said good-bye
To see if fields were greener far away.
Now many dreams and years are gone
I'm going home where I belong
To Westmeath, I am coming home.
When as a boy I used to roam
From Mullingar down to Athlone -
And on through Tyrellpass and on to Kinnegad
The beauty of Lough Ennell's shores,
The mysteries surrounding Fore
Are some of the reasons I love Westmeath.
Oh, Westmeath how I love you.
The Maroon and White for me.
And no matter where I wander
Over land or cross the sea
You know you're always in my heart.
And we will never be apart.
Iar-Mhi, you mean everything to me.
My childhood days are long since past
But still the memories they last.
Of days that I spent fishing on Lough Ree.
I loved Lough Owel and Belvedere.
The memories they bring a tear.
Oh, how I long to be back there again
Oh, Westmeath how I love you
The Maroon and White for me.
And no matter where I wander
Over land or cross the sea
You know you're always in my heart
And we will never be apart.
Iar-Mhi, you mean everything to me.
Oh, Westmeath how I love you.
The Maroon and White for me.
And no matter where I wander
Over land or cross the sea
You know you're always in my heart.
And we will never be apart
Iar-Mhi, you mean everything to me.
